Privacy policy

Hopwire (“we”, “us”) provides a free WireGuard VPN app for Android. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to delete it. We do not sell or disclose your personal data to any third party for their own marketing purposes.
What we collect
When you use the Hopwire app, we collect:
- Your email address, from Google Sign-In, to identify your account.
- A device identifier — a one-way hash derived from your device and our app's signing certificate. We can't reverse it to learn anything else about your device; it exists so we can apply fair-use limits per device, not just per account.
- The total volume of data your account transfers each day and month, so we can apply your allowance. We record how much data moved — never what it contained.
- Your WireGuard public key, generated on your device, needed to establish the encrypted tunnel. The matching private key is generated and stored on your device and never leaves it.
- If you tap “Get more data” in the app, we record that request against your account so we know demand exists for more ways to top up — no data is granted automatically from this yet.
What we do not collect
We do not keep traffic logs. We do not log DNS queries. We do not log which sites or apps you use while connected, or your browsing history.
This website
This site (not the app) uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic — pages viewed, approximate location by country, device type. Google Analytics uses cookies and may collect your IP address as described in Google's privacy policy. This is separate from the app and does not identify your Hopwire account.
Who we share data with
We use Google (Sign-In, and Google Analytics on this website), Supabase (our database and backend infrastructure provider), and Amazon Web Services (our VPN exit server infrastructure) to run the service. Each processes data only as needed to provide their part of the service, under their own security and privacy commitments. We do not share your data with anyone for advertising or resale.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app: Settings → Delete account. This removes your profile, devices, and usage history. Aggregate, de-identified usage totals that can no longer be tied to a live account may be retained for capacity planning.
Security
Your connection to our exit servers is encrypted end-to-end via WireGuard. Your account data is protected in transit with TLS and stored with database-level access controls that restrict every table to the minimum access it needs.
Children
Hopwire is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
